Minutes of Meeting on September 12, 2016. Meetings held at 23 Hutchison Street, Franklin, MA.

1.     Post 75 – If you need a ride to one of our monthly meetings, PLEASE contact the Post Commander John Milot 508-520-8771.

 

OLD BUSINESS

 

1.     The Finance Officer reported that the Road Race this past June made $1,470.63 for the Scholarship Funds of the Franklin and Medway posts.  To be able to do this for 2017, the race committee needs at least 2 more volunteers.  Possible date for next year 6/17/17.

 

NEW BUSINESS

 

1.     The Finance Officer’s report was read and accepted.  The scholarships are fully funded for this coming year.

 

2.     The Post cookout and horseshoe tournament will be held this coming weekend on September 17, 2016 at 1:00 at 360 Oak Street in Franklin.  This was a great time last year!  Please RSVP to Dave Labonte if you plan to attend. 

  

 

3.     The uniform committee (Steve, Bob M. and Jim M.) has purchased black cords for the post to be used for funeral details.  The black cords are only for funeral details.  The gold cords are for the honor guard.  Questions on the Legion uniform can be directed to a member of the committee.

 

4.     Bob Markunis asked for volunteers for a Veterans Day event he is planning at the Cornerstone Assisted Living Facility in Milford at 2:00 on November 11th.  He needs 4 to 6 people in uniform for this event.  The purpose is to honor veterans who live there. There are 12 to 15 veterans that live there.  There will be a flag ceremony and a fellowship meeting with refreshments.  Bob is also planning to reach out to the Milford American Legion for their participation as well.  Please reach out to Bob Markunis directly if you can assist.  He needs to know by the October meeting who will be attending.

 

 

5.     Brockton VA visit - Tuesday, September 20th – Time TBD.  Matt will send an email to the volunteers with the time and specific location.  Matt has 5 volunteers for the event.

 

6.     Poker Tournament news – There has been a paperwork snafu.  John M. trying to straighten this out….Dates for the next Tournament are TBD.

 

7.     A proposal has been received from the Franklin Odd Fellows for the shared use of their property at 330 West Central Street in Franklin.  The boy scouts also use this property for meetings and events.  The VFW does not respond to Matt about sharing their hall – It was agreed not to continue to reach out to them about this.  The VFW does not appear to have any interest.  More discussion is needed on the Odd Fellows proposal.

 

8.     At the Veterans Day breakfast there will be special recognition to Vietnam era veterans.  

 

9.     A post social hour will be scheduled for December – Date and Location TBD.

 

 

COMMITTEES

1.     Post Strategic Plan. Dave Labonte and Matt McGrath  

a.     Dave & Matt are meeting to discuss this effort. All invited to assist. Contact Dave or Matt for details.

 

2.     Poker Tournament Committee: Members – Kent, Kim, John M, Jim Mc. and Dave Labonte

 

3.     Fund Raising Committee. New fundraisers under discussion for 2016. 

4.     Raffle committee - John Milot, Ron Arpino, Matt McGrath

 

5.     Road Race Committee – Doug, Kim and Frank

6.     Scholarship Committee. – Kent, Ray, Steve

 

7.     Public Relations Committee ANY VOLUNTEERS? 

8.     Assisting/Visiting Veterans in Local hospitals. Matt McGrath leads this committee.  

 

9.     The American Legion Boys State program. Committee members: John Milot and Doug Wahl.

10.  Franklin Funeral Homes committee John M, Matt McGrath, Parker Vetrano, Paul Kennedy, Jim Mc, John H. and George Ferguson.
