Minutes of Meeting on March 7, 2016. Meetings held at 23 Hutchison Street, Franklin, MA.

OLD BUSINESS

 

1.     Matt McGrath reported that work continues on the post Strategic Plan.  Any questions or suggestions on the Plan should be directed to Matt McGrath or Dave Labonte.

 

2.     Do we have dates for the Poker Games? – Not yet.

 

3.     The walk from Franklin American Legion to Franklin VFW Post was discussed.  This event might work in June.  This needs to be discussed with the Franklin Police and VFW before we can do this.  A way station would need to be set up along the way.  Dave Labonte agreed to chair this committee and Matt McGrath will assist.

 

 

4.     There was another discussion about putting the membership roster on the post website.  15 responded to the e-mail that was sent out seeking feedback.  The majority agreed that name and town were okay.  No addresses.  Right now we have just names.  We will leave as is for now.  People can still opt out completely if they prefer. 

 

5.     The Road Race Committee has begun to meet regularly.  The next Road Race Committee Meeting is TBD. All are welcome to attend these meetings. The race is scheduled for 25 June 2016.  Please mark your calendars as they will need an army of volunteers!   Sponsorships, donations and raffles are needed. 

 

 

 

NEW BUSINESS

1.     Finance Report:   Status of accounts detailed.  The website is due for renewal.  Motion made to accept Finance Officers Report.  The motion was seconded and approved.

 

2.     American Legion – Dept. of Mass. convention to be held in Plymouth on June 2 through the 4th.  April 1st is the cutoff for hotel reservations.  A motion was made to send the Commander and a guest to the state convention.  The motion was seconded and approved.

 

3.     Wrentham American Legion is having a dinner to honor Joe Manning on April 16th.  Interested parties should respond by April 1st.  Tickets are $30.00 each.  A motion was made to send the Commander and a guest to this event.  The motion was seconded and approved.

 

4.     Memorial Day – We now have 865 poppies.  Need someone to chair the poppy drive this year.  This will be discussed at April meeting.  We do not know the parade route yet.

 

5.     In preparation for Memorial Day events - Rifle Squad:  Do the same people want to be on the rifle squad this year?  Kent, Matt, Dave and John Milot will participate.  Jim McNeil agreed to train.  Need 3 color guard members.  Ron and Jim G. agreed to be in color guard.  Need one more.  Practice dates TBD.

 

6.     Need to work on Post recognition….How about a Highway sign welcoming people to Franklin sponsored by the Legion post?  It was agreed that we should look into this. 

 

7.     Social meeting- We would like to hold one of these at the end of April perhaps at the Rome Restaurant.  Matt will organize.

 

 

8.     Next post meeting 4 April at 7:00.

 

 

COMMITTEES

1.     Post Strategic Plan. Dave Labonte and Matt McGrath  

a.     Dave & Matt are meeting to discuss this effort. All invited to assist. Contact Dave or Matt for details.

 

2.     Poker Tournament Committee: Members – Kent, Kim, John M, Jim Mc. and Dave Labonte

 

3.     Fund Raising Committee. New fundraisers under discussion for 2016. 

4.     Raffle committee - John Milot, Ron Arpino, Matt McGrath

 

5.     Road Race Committee – Next meeting April – Date TBD.

6.     Franklin High School Scholarship committee.

 

7.     Public Relations committee. 

8.     Assisting/Visiting Veterans in Local hospitals. Matt McGrath leads this committee.  Next event - Date TBD.

 

9.     The American Legion Boys State program. Committee members: John Milot and Doug Wahl.

10.  Franklin Funeral Homes committee John M, Matt McGrath, Parker Vetrano, Paul Kennedy, Jim Mc, John H. and George Ferguson.

11.  Local School Flag Transfer Committee: Matt McGrath and Jim McNeill.
