Minutes of Meeting on November 2, 2015. Meeting held at 23 Hutchison Street, Franklin, MA.

NOTES

1.     Post 75 – If you need a ride to one of our monthly meetings, PLEASE contact the Post Commander John Milot 508-520-8771.

 

OLD BUSINESS

1.     The Tri-County H.S Scholarship winner was finally contacted and a check for the scholarship was mailed to them.

 

2.     A letter was received to provide a donation for Wreaths for the Veterans Cemetery in Winchendon, one of the 2 Veterans Cemeteries in the state.  Wreaths for the graves are only able to be purchased through donations and 100% of the donations go to the purchase of the wreaths.   They are requesting a lump sum donation of $100.  A motion was made to approve the donation and send $100.  The motion was seconded and approved.  It was agreed that we need to establish a specific budget and criteria for donations for next year.

 

3.     John H. will talk with Dale K. about which senior homes in Franklin have veterans that may want visitors.

 

NEW BUSINESS

1.     Update: HOT NEWS! Our raffle has been scheduled to take place on DECEMBER 7, 2015. See Raffle Committee below. Prizes donated for the raffle:  Flag and holder, Bose headset, Robot Vacuum Cleaner, 2 Gallons of Paint, Breakfast for 4 at the Rod and Gun Club, a solar flag, a Welcome slate, and a Bar Butler.  Also Jim G. purchased a 55 inch smart TV for the raffle.  Ron had 1000 tickets printed.  Tickets were distributed at the October meeting.  Pease contact Ron to obtain tickets.  Tickets should be sold for $5.00 each or 3 for $10.00.   If you are able to drop off your tickets early to John Milot please do so. AT A MINIMUM YOU MUST BRING THEM TO THE NEXT MEETING ON 7 DECEMBER. WE WILL DO THE DRAWING THAT NIGHT FOR ALL PRIZES.  THANK YOU.

 

2.     Paul Kennedy has been laid up.  Everyone gives Paul their best for a speedy recovery.  We all signed a card for Paul and Charlie Shannon and mailed them out to them.

 

3.     Continued to discuss a draft of the Post Strategic Plan.  More work is needed on the Plan and Dave and Matt    

       would like more people to participate in this effort. The goals need to also be prioritized.  Dave and Matt will       send out the draft via e-mail and ask for members to provide feedback.

 

3.     One of our members Fred Zajac passed away earlier this year. We were not notified in time to attend the services.

 

4.     Our Annual Road race is scheduled for 25 JUN 16. Please mark your calendars. Doug will update the sponsor letter and we need everyone to Please start early soliciting sponsors.

 

5.     Dale Kurtz, the Franklin Vets Rep has a meeting the last Thursday of each month at 7PM at the Elks. John H. has been attending to gain insights from Dale as to his thoughts and plans for Veterans in our town. Anyone can attend one of these meetings.

 

6.     The Elks Club has Veterans Assist program with a local oil company.

 

7.     We may be having a little Holiday gathering again this year on 10 December. More to follow at the next meeting.

 

8.     No Finance Report this month.

 

 

COMMITTEES

1.     Post Strategic Plan. Dave Labonte and Matt McGrath 

a.     Dave & Matt are meeting to discuss this effort. All invited to assist. Contact Dave or Matt for details.

 

2.     Poker Tournament Committee: Members – Kent, Kim, John M, Jim Mc. and Dave Labonte

a.     We have had 3 successful events this year. Additional events upcoming.

 

3.     Fund Raising Committee. New fundraisers under discussion for 2015. 

4.     Raffle committee - John Milot, Ron Arpino, Matt McGrath and Kim Leone.

a.     ALL, please contact Ron Arpino if you still need to obtain tickets. Raffle scheduled to take place December 7, 2015.

 

5.     Road Race Committee – Next meeting November 2015 – Date TBD

6.     Franklin High School Scholarship committee.

 

7.     Public Relations committee. 

8.     Assisting/Visiting Veterans in Local hospitals. Matt McGrath leads this committee.  Next event will be Fall/Winter 2015 – Date TBD.

 

9.     The American Legion Boys State program. Committee members: John Milot and Doug Wahl.

10.  Franklin Funeral Homes committee John M, Matt McGrath, Parker Vetrano, Paul Kennedy, Jim Mc, John H.

11.  Local School Flag Transfer Committee: Matt McGrath and Jim McNeill.
