1.     Post 75 – If you need a ride to one of our monthly meetings, PLEASE contact the Post Commander John Milot 508-520-8771.

1.     Bob Markunis continues to book visits at Magnolia Heights, Atria and the Franklin Rehabilitation Center on Chestnut Street.  Magnolia Heights visits are every 3rd Wednesday at 2:00 and Franklin Rehab visits are every third Saturday of the month at 2:00.  The next visit at Magnolia Heights will be on October 17th at 2:00. The next visit at Franklin Rehab. on Chestnut Street will be on Saturday October 20th at 2:00.  The next visit at Atria will be on October 6th at 11:30.  Atria would like volunteers to join them for lunch.  Ideally there will be a veteran at every table.

1.     Guest speaker for the October meeting was Dale Kurtz, the Veteran’s Service Officer.  Dale administers Chapter 115 Benefits for the Town of Franklin – The Chapter 115 program provides financial aid for food, shelter/housing, clothing and medical care to veterans and their dependents with limited incomes.  The Rides for Vets program needs drivers locally to drive vets to their medical appointments.  The county provides liability insurance for volunteer drivers and in some cases some reimbursement is available from the county.  Dale has also assisted vets at Veterans Court and can always use volunteers to serve as mentors for those needing guidance.  These volunteers would need to be available by phone to provide counsel to vets when needed.  Dale also hosts a local cable access show called ‘Veteran’s Call’.

Dale’s information is on the Town of Franklin website if you need to contact him.  Information on Chapter 115 can be found here:

2.     John Milot attended the ‘Thanks to Yanks’ 9/11 tribute dinner in Milford on September 11th.

3.     John Hefele is on the committee for the Veterans Walkway on the town common.  Bricks will be for sale until they are sold out. Over 800 bricks sold so far.  The bricks will display the honorees name and branch of service.  The honoree can be someone living or deceased and they do not need to be from Franklin.  The names will be laser engraved with the information.  The price is $100 per brick.  Applications can be found online on the post website or the VFW website.  Local businesses are assisting with the cost of the project by donating funds.  The committee will dedicate the Walkway on Veterans Day.  They will need a color guard for this.  John Milot will reach out to Color Guard volunteers to set up practices.    This event will be on November 11th at 1:30 (rain or shine) and will include a recognition of the anniversary of the end of WWI.  There will also be a reception at the Senior Center immediately after.

4.     Raffle – Still need donations for the raffle.  A TV has already been donated.  Also some Red Sox memorabilia has been donated to the raffle by the Boston Red Sox.  The town permit for the raffle has been completed.  The raffle will be held in November or December. Matt, Dick H. and John Milot are organizing the raffle.

5.     A question came up about disabled veteran’s in Franklin receiving money off their real estate taxes.  It was reported that the dollar amount of this assistance varies based on the degree of disability.  This varies from town to town and is dependent upon the real estate revenue needs in the town.

6.     Save the Date – Wreaths Across America in Bourne will be held on Saturday, December 15th.  A group of volunteers from the post are needed to attend.  Ride sharing is encouraged.

7.     Post Social – possibly the first week of November at the Rome.

8.     Matt is setting up another Brockton VA visit before the first of the year.

9.     Reminder to members that Post 75 has a display at the Franklin Historical Museum which is open most Saturday mornings.

10.  Members please remember that Bob Markunis takes prayer requests for the sick.
